Bug Tracking Software
Overview
This list is compiled based on a discussion on LinkedIn started on October 31, 2009. This list was compiled on January 28, 2010. The purpose of compiling the list is to show the large number of available packages. The opinions of the discussion contributors have been omitted here. There is no attempt here to compare packages or make recommendations.
Although these products have a common purpose of tracking defects, they differ widely. Some are parts of suites that provide other capabilities. Some are stand-alone bug tracking. Some are Internet services and some are packages that need to be installed on your system. Some vendors offer light, standard, or premium versions. Some vendors have only one version. Wikipedia has a comparison chart of bug tracking systems. This list includes items not listed here.
Several vendors offer a free version for a limited functionality or number of users, but charge for more capable versions. If the vendor offers a version for free and one for a fee, the product is listed as "fee." Check with the vendor to see if a free version is available.
The list has been edited somewhat to update product names and take into account mergers and acquisitons of the vendors.
